India is set to host the G20 Summit, in New Delhi on September 9 10. Taking up the G20 presidency on December 1 year India successfully organized around 200 meetings related to the G20 in 60 cities across the country. Numerous hotels in Delhi have been reserved to accommodate world leaders.

In a groundbreaking move Indias leadership of the G20 has brought attention to the concept of women led development signaling an effort to address the gender gap. Indias remarkable progress in promoting inclusion has paved the way for a shift towards prioritizing women led development, which has the potential to redefine developmental strategies in this era. This is a call for the G20 to champion this cause by empowering women not as beneficiaries but also as active contributors, leaders and equal participants.

By placing “women led development” among its priorities during its G20 presidency India implicitly acknowledges the challenge of achieving gender equality within its own borders. The countrys position at 127 out of 146 countries in this years Global Gender Gap Report highlights persisting issues such, as workforce participation and opportunities.
The issue of the gender gap is often referred to by policymakers as a ” problem,” which means it is a challenge, with no simple or definitive solutions, similar to issues like climate change.

During its presidency India has taken the lead in promoting gender equality within G20 discussions. They have introduced the concept of women led development, where women’re not just recipients of development efforts but actively contribute to shaping the development agenda. Their participation is crucial in achieving the 2030 Development Goals. They serve as leaders and equal partners.
