Minimum Wage Rate Hikes opens a new hope for the workers after the revision in VDA. The revised wages will be operational from 1 October 2024. Under this, the employees will benefit from the hikes in salary or wages as the minimum wages increase. It will benefit various categories of workers working in different categories. Who will benefit from the Hikes At the New Minimum Wage Rate?
The Ministry of Labour and Employment leads to changes in Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). Under these changes, a wide variety of workers will benefit from the increased minimum wage rate. It includes the following works:
- Building and Construction
- Loading and Unloading
- Security services
- cleaning
- housekeeping
- mining
- agriculture
- central sphere, and more.
While it will include skilled, unskilled, semi-skilled, and highly skilled categories. It will also include geographic areas such as Class A, B, and C. Thus, according to all these criteria one may have the following pay:
Construction and Maintenance works:
Unskilled: Rs. 783 in the A class area, Rs. 655 in the B Class area, and Rs. 526 in the C Class area.
Semi-skilled and supervisory: Rs. 868 in the A-Class area, Rs. 739 in the B-Class area, and Rs. 616 in the C-Class area.
Skilled or clerical workers: Rs. 954 in the A-Class area, Rs. 868 in the B-Class area, and Rs. 739 in the C-Class area.
Highly skilled workers: Rs. 1,035 in the A-Class area, Rs. 954 in the B-Class area, and Rs. 868 in the C-Class area.
Loading and Unloading works:
These workers in the loading and unloading sector will benefit. The first one is individuals working on goods sheds and parcel offices or railways. The other are those working in warehouses, godowns, and other related goods sheds. It will also include those working in ports and docks, and those who handle passengers, goods and cargo at domestic and international airports.
Watch And Ward Duties Without Arms
It includes the following duties and charges:
- For Area A: Rs. 637 Basic Wage + Rs. 317 VDA
- For Area B: Rs. 579 Basic Wage + Rs. 289 VDA
- For Area C: Rs. 494 Basic Wage + Rs. 245 VDA
The minimum wage rate hikes are because of the revised VDA. These sectors are the ones receiving the most benefit from the central government’s revision. The sector has all levels of workers.
