A huge decision made by Delhi government! Now, end-of-life vehicles will not get fuel. Petrol or CNG vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years will be considered end of life vehicles. The life of these vehicles will now be considered over.
These vehicles will be identified through the automated number plate recognition (ANPR) system installed at fuel pumps in Delhi.
From now on, all old vehicles will not get fuel at any petrol pump in the state. ANPR systems, with the help of cameras, will keep an eye on the number plates. In case, such vehicles are identified, the fuel pump attendant has the right to refuse to give fuel to the vehicle owner.
If this rule is not followed, strict action will be taken against the vehicle owners, including can also be seized.
Do you know the reason behind this strict action? The government wants to ban old vehicles from the roads through its new no fuel for old vehicles policy. Because old vehicles are spreading more pollution due to which the environment has suffered a lot.
This step of the Delhi government reflects that we are trying to create a better nature.
Now the question is, what will happen to old vehicles? 15-20 years old vehicles are needed to be sent to the official vehicle scrapping centres for dismantling, and separate the usable parts, hazardous waste disposed. If the vehicle falls under ELV category, it won’t get fitness certificate, and it cannot be operated at roads.
If owners made their vehicles scrap, they would get a scrapping certificate, beneficial at the time of purchasing new vehicle. Road tax rebate up to 25%.
