The regulator said it has taken cognisance of the complaint and, based on a preliminary assessment, concluded that the matter warrants further examination under the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002.

While the CCI did not disclose details of the allegations, such probes typically assess whether a dominant market player has engaged in anti-competitive conduct, including abuse of market position or unfair practices.

IndiGo, India’s largest domestic airline by market share, has faced operational challenges in recent months amid weather disruptions, air traffic congestion and aircraft availability issues. The aviation sector has also been under heightened regulatory scrutiny as passenger volumes surge and operational reliability becomes a key concern.

The CCI’s decision to proceed does not amount to a finding of guilt but marks the formal start of an investigation process. The outcome could have implications for competitive conduct standards in the aviation sector, particularly in markets where capacity concentration is high.
