New Delhi: Ola Electric Mobility Ltd on Monday announced the roll-out of its first Ola शक्ति residential battery energy storage system (BESS) from its Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, marking a major step towards scaling up its indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell platform and diversifying beyond its core electric vehicle business.

The launch marks Ola Electric’s entry into India’s residential energy storage segment, positioning the company in a fast-emerging market driven by rising power consumption, renewable energy adoption and the need for reliable backup solutions. Ola शक्ति is fully designed, engineered and manufactured in India and is powered by the company’s in-house 4680 Bharat cells, reinforcing its localisation and technology-led strategy.

Ola शक्ति will be available in four configurations—1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh and 9.1 kWh—targeting households, farms and small businesses. According to the company, the system offers automotive-grade safety, zero running and maintenance costs, instant 0 millisecond changeover time, and IP67-rated batteries designed to withstand dust, water and monsoon conditions.

Unlike conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, Ola शक्ति operates across a wide input voltage range of 200V–240V, protecting appliances from voltage fluctuations. The higher-capacity variants are capable of powering energy-intensive appliances such as air conditioners, induction cookers, farm pumps and communication equipment, with charging times of up to two hours and backup of up to 1.5 hours at full load, the company said.

A key differentiator, Ola Electric said, is the system’s software-led energy management, allowing users to monitor battery status in real time, analyse usage patterns and optimise energy consumption automatically. The company is positioning the product as a smart, portable and on-demand energy solution aligned with India’s transition towards decentralised and clean energy systems.

“The roll-out of शक्ति from our Gigafactory is a defining moment in our mission to build the future of energy in India,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said, adding that the product is aimed at making reliable and affordable energy storage accessible to Indian homes and businesses, while supporting long-term energy independence.

Ola शक्ति is currently open for reservations at ₹999 on the company’s website.
