New Delhi: New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV) on Tuesday said it has decided to shelve plans to launch three high-definition news and current affairs channels and has voluntarily surrendered the related approvals granted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

In a regulatory filing, the broadcaster said it has given up the permission granted in March 2024 for the uplinking and downlinking of ‘NDTV India HD’, ‘NDTV 24×7 HD’ and ‘NDTV Profit HD’. The decision follows an internal strategic assessment, after which the company chose not to proceed with the proposed launches.
NDTV clarified that the channels were non-operational and had not commenced broadcasting. As a result, the surrender of approvals will not have any material impact on the company’s existing business operations or its financial position.
The move comes at a time when television news broadcasters are reassessing expansion plans amid rising distribution costs, intensifying competition from digital platforms and a sharper focus on profitability. Industry executives say several media companies are prioritising consolidation and digital-first strategies over linear television expansion.
NDTV said the disclosure has been made in compliance with regulatory requirements and has also been placed on the company’s website.
