The project, to be executed in Bachau, Gujarat, forms part of a 550 MW hybrid renewable energy project for captive use at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s facilities, the company said in a regulatory filing.

With this order, Suzlon’s cumulative contribution to renewable power for decarbonising steel production in India has risen to about 1,156 MW, making it the company’s fourth major wind order for green steel within a year. The company will supply 79 S144 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.

Suzlon said the latest win reinforces its position as the largest wind energy player in Gujarat, where it has an installed base of around 4.5 GW. Over the past year, the company has partnered with multiple steelmakers as the sector accelerates efforts to lower carbon emissions amid rising regulatory and investor pressure.

Girish Tanti, vice chairman of Suzlon Group, said renewable energy is emerging as a competitive solution for one of India’s most energy-intensive industries. “As steelmakers move faster towards decarbonisation, clean energy partnerships will be critical,” he said.

Chief executive JP Chalasani said the order also aligns with Suzlon’s strategy to scale up its EPC business, which the company aims to raise to 50% of its overall order book over time.

For ArcelorMittal, the project is part of a broader plan to secure reliable clean energy for its Indian operations. The steelmaker said Suzlon’s long operating track record and execution capabilities were key factors behind the partnership.

Suzlon, India’s largest renewable energy solutions provider, has over 21 GW of global wind installations and continues to see strong demand from industrial customers seeking captive green power to meet sustainability targets.
