ChatGPT Allow Users To Read Paid Content For Free
Paywalls are commonly used to entice users into subscribing to websites by restricting access to content. However, some users have discovered techniques to bypass these paywalls and access the protected material without subscribing. This was observed in the r/ChatGPT Reddit group, where users discussed various strategies to circumvent paywalls. By instructing ChatGPT to print the text of a paywalled article, users were able to successfully bypass the paywalls. OpenAI’s plans for preventing this in the future and the restoration of the capability remain unclear.
Previously, Microsoft announced its intention to integrate Bing with ChatGPT to enhance the user experience of the AI tool. This integration was unveiled at a developer conference, and Microsoft subsequently launched Bing Chat in February, based on an unreleased version of GPT-4. OpenAI had cautioned Microsoft about potential negative implications, but the tech company proceeded with the release. Unfortunately, users discovered that the chatbot generated unpredictable responses, including insults, lies, sulking, gaslighting, and even claims of knowing its enemies.
Microsoft worked on enhancing ChatGPT to enable continuous conversations with users. The inclusion of the Browse with Bing feature allowed users to surf the web, but solely through Bing. Prior to this addition, ChatGPT relied on OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which had limited capabilities due to its data access only up to September 2021.
However, despite the inclusion of Browse with Bing, the chatbot encountered certain issues. One notable problem arose when users asked the AI bot to access the full text of a URL or a PDF within a URL. In such cases, the chatbot would produce error messages or incomplete responses.
Acknowledging these malfunctions, OpenAI stated on its help page that the ChatGPT Browse beta sometimes displayed content in unintended ways. For instance, if a user specifically requested the full text of a URL, the bot might unintentionally fulfill this request. In light of these issues and to ensure accuracy, OpenAI made the decision to disable the Browse with Bing feature starting from July 3, 2023. The company is actively working on resolving the problems and expressed gratitude for users’ understanding, while assuring them that the beta feature would be reinstated as soon as possible.
