Dani’s journey with Asian Paints began in 1968 when he joined as a senior executive. Over the years, he ascended through the company’s ranks eventually assuming a leadership role. His significant contributions played a pivotal role in Asian Paints’ growth, making it the largest paint manufacturer in India with a group turnover of Rs 21,700 crore.

As of 2023, Forbes estimates Ashwin Dani’s net worth to be approximately $7.1 billion.

Born on September 26th1944 in Mumbai Dani completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Mumbai University in 1966. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron in the United States. Initially he worked as a chemist in Detroit before returning to join the family business at Asian Paints in 1968.

During his tenure with the company Dani held various positions, including director (research and development), works director, full time director, vice chairman and managing director. He was recognized for his emphasis on research and development which led to innovative concepts in the paints industry.

Ashwin Dani is credited with pioneering computer color matching, a technology now widely used in industries such as paints, plastics, printing inks and textiles. He also introduced groundbreaking products like Apcolite Natural Wood Finish, an innovative wood surface finishing system and the Automotive Refinishing System, a fast drying alkyd enamel widely adopted in the automobile aftermarket segment.

In May of the same year at the 18th edition of the CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards, Dani emphasized the importance of customer centricity in Asian Paints’ success. He stressed that prioritizing customer needs and preferences was essential for the company’s ongoing growth and prosperity. This customer centric approach aligns with the broader philosophy that places the customer at the core of the company’s strategies, innovation and service delivery.
