Central Employee may get 4% hike in DA

The Union Cabinet is expected to approve a 4 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees during its meeting on Wednesday. If this increase is approved, it would raise the current DA from 42 percent to 46 percent. This hike is set to be effective from July 1, 2023, resulting in higher salaries for government employees starting from November. It will also include arrears for the period from July to October. Approximately 47 lakh employees and 68 lakh pensioners are expected to benefit from this decision.

Dearness Allowance (DA) is an adjustment allowance provided to public sector employees to account for the cost of living, and it is revised by the government every six months based on the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers.

For employees with a minimum basic salary of Rs 18,000, the current 42 percent DA provides a monthly increase of Rs 7,560. If the DA is increased to 46 percent, this monthly increase is expected to be Rs 8,280, resulting in an annual salary increase of Rs 8,640. Meanwhile, individuals with a maximum basic salary of Rs 56,900 currently benefit from a 42 percent DA, which adds Rs 23,898 to their monthly earnings. Following the DA hike to 46 percent, this monthly increase is projected to rise to Rs 26,174.

As the Union Cabinet’s meeting approaches, the prospect of a 4 percent increase in Dearness Allowance looms large, promising positive changes for government employees and pensioners. This timely adjustment addresses the ever-rising cost of living and inflation, offering much-needed financial relief to a vast number of individuals. It not only enhances monthly salaries but also ensures that arrears are distributed to account for the period between July and October. With millions of lives set to be positively impacted by this decision, the future looks brighter for government employees and pensioners in India, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their financial well-being.
