The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) has been implemented in the year 2017 by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Rs 4439 Crore Allocated to Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana
A comprehensive package known as SAMPADA (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) aims to develop modern infrastructure with effective supply chain management from the farm gate to the retail outlet.
It aims to significantly boost the country’s food processing industry, help farmers get better returns, reduce agricultural product wastage, increase processing capacity, and boost exports of processed foods.
The following plans are implemented under PMKSY:
- Creation of Mega Food Parks
- Developing Integrated Cold Chain
- Addition of Value and Preservation of the Infrastructure
- Creation and Expansion of the Food Processing Stronger Preservation Capacities
- High Infrastructure for Agro Processing Clusters
- Launching Schemes for Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages
- Ensuring the Safety & Quality of Food and Provided Assurance
- Bigger and Better Human Resources and Institutions for Knowledge and Growth
So far, 1375 food processing projects have been approved by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), including projects for food testing laboratories, research and development in the food processing sector, and skill development that have received grants totaling Rs. 8536.14 crore. The SAMPADA program has helped 56.01 lakhs farmers and created 8.28 lakhs jobs.
The sub-schemes namely
(i) Integrated cold chain and Value Addition Infrastructure
(ii) Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Clusters
(iii) Creation/ Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities
(iv) Operation Greens of PMKSY helps in increasing the processing level of the raw farm produce by reducing the loss due to perishability
Implementation of the Agriculture Export Policy, the District as Export Hubs (DEH) scheme on a One District, One Product (ODOP) basis, Production Linked Incentive schemes, collaboration with Missions/Embassies, the organization of trade fairs, and Buyer-Seller meetings are the primary steps that the Indian government has taken or is currently taking to increase exports of processed foods.
The objectives of PMKSY served the needs of the sector’s sphere. Helped in creation of modern infrastructure for food processing mega food parks/ clusters and individual units; creating effective backward and forward linkages – linking farmers, processors and markets; and last but not the least successfully completed robust supply chain infrastructure for perishables.
