Company incorporates Shri Kedarnath Ropeways Limited to execute Uttarakhand ropeway project under DBFOT model

Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), the flagship of the Adani Group, has announced the incorporation of Shri Kedarnath Ropeways Limited (SKRL) — a wholly owned subsidiary created to undertake the prestigious Sonprayag–Kedarnath ropeway project in Uttarakhand. The project will operate under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, aimed at modernising pilgrim infrastructure in one of India’s most sacred destinations.
According to AEL’s regulatory filing with the BSE, SKRL was incorporated on October 27, 2025, with an authorised share capital of ₹1 lakh, divided into 10,000 equity shares of ₹10 each. The new entity will be responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining the ropeway system that will connect Sonprayag to Kedarnath — a route that currently demands a strenuous 18-kilometre trek through steep Himalayan terrain.
The ropeway, once completed, is expected to cut travel time to just 30 minutes, drastically improving access for millions of devotees who visit the Kedarnath shrine annually. This marks another strategic step in Adani’s growing focus on sustainable transport and tourism-linked infrastructure projects across India.
Boost to Religious Tourism Infrastructure
The Kedarnath ropeway project, estimated at around ₹1,000 crore, was awarded to Adani Enterprises under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework in 2023. It is part of the central government’s vision to promote spiritual circuit tourism under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, which aims to enhance pilgrim connectivity through green and efficient modes of travel.
Industry experts note that the ropeway will not only aid pilgrims but also spur regional economic development, generating employment and tourism opportunities for local communities. “Such projects represent the fusion of faith and infrastructure,” said a senior government official. “They also demonstrate private sector commitment to sustainable mountain transport.”
Strategic Fit in Adani’s Infrastructure Portfolio
For Adani Enterprises, this initiative aligns with its expanding portfolio in transport infrastructure, which includes airports, roads, and metro projects. The Group already operates ropeways in Girnar (Gujarat) and Ambaji and has shown interest in replicating similar models in other religious and tourist destinations.
“The ropeway business complements Adani’s integrated mobility vision,” said an infrastructure analyst at Kotak Institutional Equities. “With Kedarnath being one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India, this project will offer both strategic visibility and stable revenue once operational.”
Adani’s diversification into tourism infrastructure comes at a time when the government is pushing private participation in high-altitude infrastructure development, balancing accessibility with environmental sensitivity. The Kedarnath ropeway project will use advanced European technology, ensuring minimal ecological disruption while maintaining safety and reliability in extreme weather conditions.
Part of a Broader Expansion Drive
This move also coincides with Adani Group’s broader expansion in clean energy, logistics, and public infrastructure, reinforcing its image as an integrated infrastructure conglomerate. The Group has been diversifying into areas that combine long-term public value with consistent revenue potential — a trend evident in its airport modernization and renewable power projects.
With SKRL now incorporated, Adani Enterprises will begin the financial closure and engineering design phase. Construction is expected to commence in early 2026, with commercial operations likely by 2028, subject to environmental and regulatory clearances.
