New Delhi: Bharti Airtel Ltd has received a demand notice of ₹1,82,47,052 from the Office of the Collector of Stamps (Enforcement-II), Mumbai, alleging short levy of stamp duty on a 2014 ‘Agreement of Sale of Power’, the telecom major said in a regulatory filing.
The notice, issued under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966 read with the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958, was received by the company at 1:10 PM on December 10. The authorities have also imposed a penalty alongside the alleged shortfall.
Airtel said it is currently “examining the merits of the demand and the available legal remedies” and will take appropriate action in due course. 
The company stated that the maximum financial implication arising from the notice is limited to the amount demanded.
