A six-member investigation team—comprising three officers from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), Delhi, and three officers from the DGCA’s Mumbai regional office—reached the crash site on January 28. AAIB Director General G V G Yugandhar also visited the site the same day to oversee the initial stages of the probe, the ministry said.

The investigation has been initiated in accordance with Rules 5 and 11 of the AAIB Rules, 2025, which govern the conduct of aircraft accident inquiries in India. Officials said recovery of the black box is a critical step that will help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the accident, including flight parameters and cockpit communications.

MoCA said ensuring a thorough, transparent and time-bound investigation remains its top priority, and that the inquiry will be carried out strictly in line with laid-down standard operating procedures (SOPs) and international safety guidelines fileciteturn3file0.

While details on the aircraft type and casualties were not immediately disclosed, aviation experts said the timely deployment of investigation teams and swift recovery of the flight data recorder could aid in faster determination of causal factors, including technical malfunction or human error.

The ministry added that it will continue to coordinate with all relevant agencies to ensure compliance with safety protocols as the investigation progresses. Further updates are expected once preliminary findings em erge.
