In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, the Kolkata-based cement maker said the Department of Mines and Petroleum, Rajasthan, rejected the bid through an order dated December 31, 2025, exercising powers under Clause 14.11 of the tender document.

The company had earlier informed the exchanges in June 2025 that it had emerged as the highest bidder for the limestone block, spread over about 499.64 hectares, after quoting a final price offer of 20.60%. However, the state government has now held that the price offer was “comparatively lower” than bids discovered in auctions of other similar limestone blocks in the region, according to the filing.

Birla Corporation said it had participated in the e-auction process in compliance with applicable laws and tender conditions and had fulfilled all procedural requirements, including the deposit of the upfront payment within prescribed timelines. The department has acknowledged receipt of this payment in its order, the company added.

“The company is examining the matter to determine the future course of action including legal recourse,” Birla Corporation said, indicating that it may challenge the decision.

The company also clarified that additional disclosure requirements under the latest SEBI master circular were not applicable in this case.
