India’s prominent airline Air India got ₹30 lakh penalty from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This happened after the shocking incident at the Mumbai Airport on 12th February 2024. An 80-year-old passenger died at the Airport due to the unavailability of a wheelchair when he collapsed after walking from the aircraft to the airport terminal in Mumbai. On 12th Feb 2024, there was an incident that happened at the AIR India Mumbai Airport. An 80-year-old person asked for a wheelchair from airport staff but due to the non-availability and amid heavy demand for wheelchairs, the staff failed to fulfill the request. Because of this, the passenger had to walk and unfortunately died after collapsing suddenly at the time of the immigration process.

The passenger was traveling from New York and landed at Mumbai Airport on Air India Flight.

In this case, DGCA has informed that Air India has not taken any action against the erring employee(s) and the failed to submit any corrective measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Later in response to the DGCA the Airline submitted that the elder person wished to walk along with his wife who was already in a wheelchair rather than waiting for another wheelchair.

After the sudden collapse of the 80-year-old passenger, the Airport doctor attended to him, the airline said the passenger was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was rushed to the hospital and declared dead by doctors.
