DRI Busts Major Gold Smuggling Syndicate in Mumbai under “Operation Bullion Blaze

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has dismantled a large-scale gold smuggling and melting racket operating across Mumbai. Codenamed Operation Bullion Blaze, the operation led to the seizure of 11.88 kg of 24-carat gold valued at ₹15.05 crore and 8.72 kg of silver worth ₹13.17 lakh, alongside the arrest of 11 individuals, including the mastermind and his associates.

Based on specific intelligence, DRI teams conducted simultaneous raids on four premises—two illegal melting units and two unregistered shops—used for converting smuggled gold into bars and distributing them through unregulated channels. The illegal furnaces were found in full operation at the time of the raid.

Those arrested include the mastermind, his father, a manager, four melters, an accountant, and three delivery personnel. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody by the JMFC, Mumbai.

Preliminary investigation indicates a well-organized network engaged in melting and marketing gold smuggled into India, violating import policies and defrauding government revenue.

The DRI emphasized that the crackdown underscores its continued commitment to combating organized smuggling networks that undermine market integrity and fiscal stability. Further investigations are underway.
