On 1st July 2025 Delhi High court stated a single judge order that had directed Amazon technology. Pay approximately Rs 340 crore in damages and legal cost to Lifestyle Equities.

A case was filed by lifestyle Equities. The owner of Beverly Hills Polo Club (BHPC) trademark. Allegations were made against Amazon. The allegations were, Amazon allowed counterfeit or infringing in products under the BHPC name to be sold on its platform. Moreover, the listings were not from the official brand owner. Amazon’s own private label seller was linked to some of the infringing sales.

However, in February 2025, Delhi High court (single-judge bench) held Amazon liable. The contributory trademark infringement, this means enable or profit from unauthorised sales. Additionally, not doing enough to monitor, detect, and block the listings.

Consequently, the damages awarded are Rs 340 crore which is Rs 41.7 crore ($ 5 million). It is for reputational damage. Rs 282 crores for royalties lost due to counterfeit sales.

This step has been taken by the Delhi High court to compensate the trademark owner. Lifestyle Equities has lost millions in royalties because of fake products. Moreover, they claim the brand value and consumer trust were damaged.

This will hold the platforms accountable and set an example. The decision of Rs 340 crore was meant to send a warning to platforms and sellers.
