Google has initiated the groundwork to enable QR code-based eSIM transfers on Android. Earlier this year, Google announced its plans to support an eSIM transfer feature in Android, which would allow users to migrate their eSIMs between devices seamlessly. Currently, there is no native way to transfer eSIMs between Android devices, with carriers handling the process.

The upcoming feature will involve users scanning a QR code to initiate the transfer process. This functionality is still in its early stages, and a preliminary UI resembling Fast Pair has been uncovered by @AssembleDebug.

In contrast, Apple has streamlined the eSIM transfer process for iPhones by introducing a tool within iOS that enables wireless transfer of eSIMs between iPhones.

Recent updates include Android 14 Beta 4, which introduced an ‘auto-confirm unlock’ feature. This feature automatically unlocks the user’s phone when the correct PIN is entered. The PIN needs to be at least 6 digits long to activate this feature. Additionally, new default profile picture options were added, and users can now find their phone’s manufacturing year under Settings – About phone – Model.

Separately, Android 14 has completely separated the ‘ring volume’ and ‘notification volume’ sliders, and they can no longer be merged as in previous betas. The separation of these sliders was previously controlled by a DeviceConfig flag, which is no longer in use.
