In his latest speech in parliament, Prime Minister Modi praised his government’s achievements. He said how India came to 5th place in the world economy, where the economy was in 11th place during the Congress period until 2014 (economy by GDP). Prime Minister Modi also attacked Chidambaram Palaniappan (P. Chidambaram); he was finance minister from 2004 to 2008, 2012 to 2014, and presented the budget in parliament in 2014.

How India Achieved 5th Rank from 11th Place In the World's Largest Economy

India’s Journey to Become 5th Largest Economy in the World

The prime minister attacked Congress directly by saying that Congress is still silent when the country is celebrating that this economy has achieved its goal, though some people objected by saying that the prime minister promised India that they’d reach a $5 trillion economy by 2025, and the goal is still far for India till now.

Further, Prime Minister Modi also listed more achievements in the parliament, like the BJP government building more than 4 crore houses for the poor, and further in the budget, they also added they are going to continue to build more under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Vikas Yojana. He attacked Congress again on this topic by saying that making 8-story houses for Congress is a work of 100 years; by then, five generations will have passed.

From revoking British-era penal codes to building the Ram Mandir for the Ram Lalla, PM Modi listed all the achievements during the motion of thanks in parliament. The prime minister also talked about the “Har Ghar Sauchalay” scheme and the “Swaach Bharat Yojna,” where the government built more than 11 crore toilets in urban and rural India.

We have to remember that a growing economy does not show the real image of any country; other measures tell if the country is growing or if it is just a sham. Income disparity is one of those topics. According to a report, around 10% of India controls 57% of the national income, and the top 1% gets more than 22% of the national income, which shows how bluntly income is distributed in India. Not only this, but 10% of the population controls 65% of the wealth of the nation.

It is time to celebrate India’s economic achievement, but we also have to remember that India is still quite far in terms of the global hunger index and healthcare facilities. India will achieve the $5 trillion economy goal, but during that time we should see no person die because of hunger and no woman give birth outside of a hospital. Maybe at that time, India will celebrate India’s real economic achievement.
