In a recent development, the government of India launched Digital India FutureLABS, which basically works under the Ministry of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, whose minister is Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The work of Digital India FutureLABS is to do research, development (R&D), and innovation.
On February 5, the minister of skill development, Mr Chandrasekhar, announced two future designs of semiconductor fabless companies under the DLI schemes at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi.
Further, Minister Chandrasekhar announced that around 20 companies signing MoUs are going to collaborate with FutureLABS, by which FutureLABS will be able to conduct research and development in various sectors such as automation, IT, design, etc.
The two semiconductor fabless companies are based in Karnataka, India, and will financially support Dunder Design-Linked Incentive (DLI), which will help them grow their business in India. The Ministry of Electronics and IT further added that they will be provided with many chipsets and solutions for communication for their ease.
Recently, Minister of Railways and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said in an interview that India will give competition to China and Taiwan in the making of semiconductors. Currently, China and Taiwan control a huge amount of supply and demand for semiconductors and create disruptions in the global market.
A semiconductor is a chip that fits in your electronic devices; you can’t see them, but without them, no one can imagine working on any electronic devices, from mobile phones to laptops. The semiconductor plays a huge role in the working of these devices, so it’s quite important to support semiconductor-making companies in India, which will further help India achieve its goal of being developed by 2047.
