India’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme Sees Unprecedented Response, Investment Commitments Cross Rs. 1.15 Lakh Crore

The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), launched by the Government of India, has generated an unprecedented response from both domestic and international industry, with applications reflecting investment commitments worth Rs. 1,15,351 crore, nearly double the targeted Rs. 59,350 crore. The scheme, aimed at strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, has received 249 applications, highlighting the global and domestic industry’s growing confidence in India’s self-reliance vision in electronics.

Addressing the media at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav urged states to leverage this opportunity to foster electronics manufacturing industries within their regions. He emphasised that the sector not only promises substantial direct employment, projected at 1,42,000 jobs—well above the target of 91,600—but also generates a manifold number of indirect jobs, offering significant prospects for youth employment.

The ECMS, approved by the Cabinet on 1st May 2025 with a fiscal outlay of Rs. 22,919 crore, is projected to achieve Rs. 10,34,700 crore worth of electronics component production over the next six years, surpassing the original target of Rs. 4,56,000 crore. The application window, initially open for three months starting May 1, 2025, was extended till 30th September 2025 in view of the overwhelming industry response.

Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Shri S. Krishnan, highlighted that the scheme aims to expand domestic value chains in electronics manufacturing and enhance India’s value-add component, while also facilitating integration with global supply chains. The Ministry lauded industry participants for their trust in India’s manufacturing capabilities, policy stability, and competitive advantages.

Shri Vaishnaw added that the successful implementation of ECMS will help realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a $500 billion domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2030–31. The scheme builds on previous initiatives such as EMC, SPECS, and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for mobile phones and IT hardware, completing the value chain integration and positioning India as a global electronics manufacturing hub.

The Ministry has already initiated the approval process for eligible applicants, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance and global competitiveness in electronics manufacturing.
