India–Israel FTA Talks Gain Momentum During Goyal’s Visit

India’s partnership with Israel received a significant boost this week as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal advanced key discussions on the long-pending India–Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA) during his official visit. The renewed momentum signals stronger cooperation in trade, technology, and innovation between the two nations.

Goyal met senior Israeli leaders and business representatives, emphasising India’s position as an emerging, reliable partner for the global economy. Both sides expressed confidence that an FTA would open new opportunities for bilateral trade, especially in sectors such as agri-tech, defence manufacturing, cybersecurity, water technology, healthcare, and renewable energy.

Israel welcomed India’s focus on innovation-led industrial growth, while Indian officials highlighted that bilateral trade has consistently expanded over the past decade. The potential FTA is expected to reduce tariff barriers, encourage technology transfer, and deepen collaboration in research and development.

During the visit, Goyal also urged Israeli companies to expand their presence in India’s growing manufacturing and startup ecosystem, especially under initiatives such as Make in India and PLI schemes. Leaders from both sides stressed that the agreement would mark a “first big step” toward transforming the economic relationship into a more strategic partnership.

With negotiations gaining speed, both nations are expected to intensify work on finalising the framework in the coming months, setting the stage for one of India’s most important trade agreements in the Middle East region.
