India’s textile industry is entering a phase of unprecedented global opportunity, driven by rising demand for high-performance, sustainable and functional materials. Speaking at the Manmade and Technical Textiles Export Promotion Council (MATEXIL)’s Export Award Function in Mumbai, Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs Shri Pabitra Margherita highlighted that India is not only responding to this shifting global landscape — it is doing so with “strength and confidence.”
The event, held to honour outstanding export performers for 2023–24 and 2024–25, brought together the country’s top manufacturers, innovators and exporters from the man-made fibre (MMF) and technical textiles ecosystem. Nearly 80 awardees from across 12 technical textile categories received recognition for their achievements, reflecting the sector’s increasingly essential role in India’s export basket.
Congratulating the winners, Shri Margherita emphasised that the celebration was as much about the workforce behind the industry as the companies at the forefront. “Every worker, engineer, designer, entrepreneur and exporter adds strength to millions of families and pride to the nation. This evening honours all of them,” he said.
The Minister stressed that MMF and technical textiles are driving a fundamental shift in global consumer and industrial behaviour. Today, MMF accounts for nearly 70–75% of the global fibre market — a clear indication of where the future lies. India has been quick to align with this trend. In 2024–25, India’s MMF exports grew by 6.5%, while technical textiles exports surged by over 15%, showcasing increasing competitiveness and deeper integration into global value chains.
“We are well positioned to capture a larger share of the expanding global market. Our high-quality and dependable products have strengthened India’s image as a trusted global partner,” Margherita said. He reiterated that India’s target of USD 100 billion in textile exports and a USD 350 billion domestic textile market by 2030 remains fully achievable.
Industry leaders credited the growth to the government’s supportive policies. The Minister pointed to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, the National Technical Textiles Mission, and capacity-building initiatives that are enhancing value-chain capabilities and encouraging investments in advanced materials, speciality fibres and technical applications.
Shri Margherita also acknowledged the practical, industry-centric approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh in resolving bottlenecks and enabling long-term sectoral expansion. “The Ministry stands firmly with all stakeholders. We are determined to strengthen India’s position at every level of the textile ecosystem,” he reassured.
The dual-year award ceremony further emphasised India’s strong performance across key technical textile segments such as agro-textiles, medical textiles, industrial textiles and protective textiles. Leading companies including Garware Technical Fibres Ltd., Arvind Limited and KT Exports India Pvt. Ltd. were among the prominent awardees. Special recognitions were also given to individuals and institutions contributing significantly to industry development.
The event concluded with the release of MATEXIL’s Technical Textiles Dossier and a forward-looking panel discussion titled “Prospects and Potential for Technical Textiles Exports by GenNext.” Young entrepreneurs and experts discussed emerging global opportunities, sustainability mandates and market diversification.
With rising global demand and a strong domestic ecosystem, India’s technical textiles sector is clearly poised for an era of accelerated global leadership.
