New Delhi: InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent of IndiGo, said on Tuesday it has received a tax demand and penalty order from Kuwait’s Department of Inspection and Tax Claims, imposing a penalty of KWD 448,793 (about ₹131.6 crore) for financial years 2021–22 to 2024–25.

The company disclosed the development to stock exchanges under SEBI’s disclosure norms, stating that the Kuwait tax authority has raised an income-tax claim along with the penalty for the four-year period. IndiGo said it believes the demand is erroneous and has obtained advice from external tax experts supporting its position.
“The company believes we have a strong case on merits… and will take appropriate legal recourse against the demand,” said Neerja Sharma, Company Secretary in an exchange filing.
IndiGo clarified that the penalty does not have any significant financial or operational impact on the airline. The order was received on December 8, 2025.
