New Delhi: InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., parent of IndiGo, has disclosed that it has received a penalty order of ₹1,175.28 crore from the Joint Commissioner of Central Tax and Central Excise, CGST Kochi Commissionerate, for the period FY 2018–19 to 2021–22. The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations.
According to the communication received on December 1, 2025, the tax department has denied the input tax credit (ITC) claimed by the airline and issued a corresponding tax demand along with a penalty.
In the filing, IndiGo said the order was “erroneous” and asserted that it has a “strong case on merits, backed by advice from external tax advisors”. The company added that it plans to contest the order before the appropriate authority.
Despite the large penalty figure, the airline clarified that the development does not materially affect its financial or operational performance. “There is no significant impact on financials, operations or other activities of the Company,” IndiGo stated in its submission.
