Synopsis: JSW Motors Ltd, the automotive unit of the JSW Group, will launch its first passenger vehicle — a plug-in hybrid SUV — in India before Diwali 2026, with production starting in August at its Maharashtra facility. New Delhi: JSW Motors Ltd, the newly established passenger mobility arm of the JSW Group, is gearing up for its first commercial vehicle launch in India later this year, with production slated to begin in August and customer deliveries set to start by September ahead of the Diwali festival, according to company executives speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The initial offering will be a Jetour T2-based plug-in hybrid SUV, positioned as a large, lifestyle-oriented model that carries the JSW brand badge rather than that of its Chinese design source, Jetour.

The vehicle — expected to be larger than mainstream midsize SUVs like the Tata Safari — marks JSW Motors’ maiden step into vehicle manufacturing and brand building in India.

Manufacturing will take place at JSW’s ₹14,000-crore facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, where the company is sequentially operationalising key production lines. The general assembly facility is to be ready by June, while the paint shop is expected online by October.

Initially, parts will be imported and assembled domestically, with plans to scale localisation to about 80% (excluding battery cells) from October onwards.

JSW Motors’ management said localisation will span most vehicle components — from the steel used in body-in-white to seats, glass and tyres — and that battery-cell manufacturing capability is being pursued to achieve full localisation in due course.

The company has signalled broader ambitions in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, eyeing launch of fully electric models by 2027 as it targets mainstream market share in India’s fast-growing EV ecosystem.

This strategy complements JSW Group’s existing partnership with SAIC Motor via JSW MG Motor India, which has already established strong EV sales momentum with models like the Windsor EV — one of India’s leading EV sellers in recent periods.
