PM Modi raced across two continents in just seven days. A diplomatic marathon which is designed to turbocharge India’s presence in the Global South. India is expanding its global footprint in trade and investment, geopolitical and political, and it’s shaping India’s foreign policy narratives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on his longest diplomatic tour in nearly a decade, visiting five countries for eight days from 2nd – 9th July 2025. Countries he is visiting are Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil for the BRICS summit, and Namibia.

GHANA: 2nd – 3rd JULY 

The Prime Minister will make a historic visit to Ghana, the first in 30 years. He is aiming to revive ties between India and West Africa. He will address the Ghana parliament and meet President John Mahama. The discussion will be focusing on investment, energy, health, infrastructure, defence, ECOWAS, and African Union cooperation.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: 3rd – 4th July 

The Prime Minister will make his first visit since 1999. It is driven by strong diaspora and cultural ties spanning 180 years, with nearly half the population being of Indian origin. He will address the joint parliament, receive the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The key discussion areas include renewable energy, health, education, fintech, agriculture, digital infrastructure, disaster resilience, and culture.

ARGENTINA: 4th – 5th July 

He will make his first visit in 57 years, since 1968. He will meet with President Javier Milei. The discussion will be based on agriculture, mining, technology, defence, green hydrogen, pharma, telemedicine, and digital public infrastructure. The meeting aims to build on their shared G20 membership and existing cooperation.

BRAZIL : 5th – 8th July 

He will attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio on July 6-7. He will discuss global governance, climate, AI, terrorism, peace, and economy, with a focus on India’s chairmanship of BRICS in 2026. Additionally, he will visit Brasilia for bilateral talks with President Lula, covering trade, defence, space, energy, health, technology, AI, climate, and MERCOSUR cooperation. The talks are expected to finalise defence and anti-terror pacts, as well as a classified information-sharing agreement..

NAMIBIA: 8th – 9th July  

Prime Minister Modi will make his first visit to the country in nearly 30 years, marking his third visit ever. He will meet President Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah, who will address parliament to honour the founding president, Sam Nujoma. The focus areas of the visit include diamonds, critical minerals, uranium, healthcare, digital payments, energy, education, ICT, water, and wildlife conservation.

STRATEGIC SIGNIFICANCE : 

It will reinforce ties across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean via ECOWAS, the African Union, CARICOM, and BRICS. It will make participation active in BRICS, pushing for reforms in global governance, climate finance, and AI regulation. Willing to uplift the economy and strategic MoUs and will deal in energy, minerals, defence, digital infrastructure, health, and fintech. The highlights will include speeches in Trinidad & Ghana, reflecting India’s people-to-people diplomacy. Focusing on terrorism partnership (Brazil), defence pacts, and global peace narratives, especially after the Pahalgam attack.
