New Delhi: Nippon Paint India has partnered with Humble Bee to support sustainable apiculture in the country by improving the durability and safety of modern beehives through eco-friendly coatings technology.

The collaboration combines Nippon Paint’s expertise in environmentally responsible coatings with Humble Bee’s precision-engineered beehive manufacturing, aiming to strengthen India’s beekeeping infrastructure and promote healthier bee colonies. The initiative is also expected to support rural livelihoods by improving hive longevity and productivity for beekeepers.
As part of the partnership, beehives manufactured at Humble Bee’s facility in Varanasi using sustainably sourced Southern Yellow Pine will be coated with Nippon Paint’s low-VOC, weather-resistant formulations designed to withstand diverse climatic conditions while maintaining a bee-safe environment.
According to the company, the coatings comply with stringent environmental benchmarks and are designed to protect hive structures without harming surrounding ecosystems. Field trials will be conducted in different regions to assess durability, bee compatibility and performance before scaling up the initiative nationwide.
The initiative also aims to expand sustainable beekeeping among tribal and rural communities, particularly first-generation women farmers, while addressing India’s growing pollination gap and increasing global demand for traceable and ethically produced honey.
The collaboration reflects a broader push by companies to integrate sustainability initiatives with rural economic development and biodiversity conservation in India’s agricultural ecosystem.
