In a statement, ONGC said the crisis management team is executing operations in line with the approved blowout control plan, with fire intensity, noise levels and ambient heat around the wellsite reducing substantially over the past few days.

The company said an approach road has been completed from the rear end of the wellsite to enable systematic debris clearance. Required logistics have also been mobilised to support removal operations. In parallel, a water blanket has been established at the site to facilitate debris clearance near the wellhead and prepare for subsequent capping operations, as outlined in the action plan.

Given the steady progress and a “remote likelihood of escalation”, the district administration has advised residents in surrounding areas to resume normal activities, indicating a reduction in immediate risk to the local community.

ONGC said the safety of the community and protection of the environment remain its highest priorities, adding that all actions are being carried out in strict compliance with regulatory norms and established industry best practices.

The update comes amid close monitoring of the situation by local authorities and energy sector stakeholders, as ONGC works to bring the well fully under control and move towards permanent conta inment.
