New Delhi: The Centre has provisionally selected five companies under the fourth round of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods, reinforcing its push to deepen domestic manufacturing of air-conditioner components and reduce import dependence.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the selected firms have committed investments of ₹863 crore and are expected to generate production worth ₹8,337 crore by FY 2027–28, along with 1,799 additional direct jobs.
The five companies—Kirloskar Pneumatic Company, Indo Asia Copper, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing, Kryon Technology and Pranav Vikas (India)—will manufacture key AC components such as compressors, copper tubes, heat exchangers, motors, control assemblies and sheet metal parts. Eight other applicants from the fourth round have been referred to a committee of experts for further examination.
Cumulatively, 85 companies selected under the PLI scheme for white goods (air conditioners and LED lights) are expected to invest ₹11,198 crore over the scheme period, resulting in total production of about ₹1.9 lakh crore, the ministry said.
The PLI scheme for white goods, approved by the Union Cabinet in April 2021 with an outlay of ₹6,238 crore, aims to build a strong domestic component ecosystem and integrate India into global supply chains. The scheme offers incentives of 6–4% on incremental sales over five years and targets a sharp increase in domestic value addition—from the current 20–25% to 75–80%.
The latest selections underline the government’s continued focus on import substitution in consumer durables and on positioning India as a manufacturing hub for critical components used in air conditioners and LED lighting products.
