Do you think this might have done as a PR strategy or intentionally? The latest buzz is now shaping as a controversy!

Have you ever heard of wearing slippers with such high prices? Italian luxury powerhouse Prada is in headlines. The brand labelled them as “Leather Flat Sandals”, without thanking Indian artisans. Netizens are pointing out that the actual price for kolhapuri chappals are in between Rs. 300-1500 in kolhapur. Stating- “it’s not luxury, its theft”. This controversy continues to grow with a twist, when public figure Shobhaa De stated her point of view on the incident. In her sense, it is a “tribute” and felt there is no harm- as long as it helps spark interest in the craft.

What does it mean? The Prada has started a controversy war on culture, approval, appreciation, and India’s feelings. The debate goes on with multiple POVs including either luxury brands should acknowledge and collaborate with the permission of original artisans. It will provide them with an opportunity to grow, earn, and reach at a global level. Or if they don’t do this, at least appreciate the local efforts.
