In a regulatory filing, the lender said the RBI conveyed its approval on January 27, 2026, clearing the way for Gupta—one of the founders of the FINO group—to continue at the helm until May 1, 2029.

Gupta’s reappointment follows a recommendation by the nomination and remuneration committee and board approval granted in October last year. The bank said there are no inter se relationships between Gupta and other directors or key managerial personnel, and that he is not debarred by any regulatory authority.

A chartered accountant and cost and management accountant, Gupta has over three decades of experience across financial services, including stints with Maruti Udyog, ICICI Group and the International Finance Corporation. He previously served as MD & CEO of FINO PayTech and has played a central role in building the payments bank’s operating and compliance framework.

Under his leadership, Fino Payments Bank became India’s first payments bank to list on stock exchanges, while focusing on financial inclusion through a phygital distribution network and transaction-led banking services.

The bank said the approval ensures continuity in leadership at a time when payments banks are seeking to deepen customer engagement, improve monetisation and navigate tighter regulatory scrutiny.
