New Delhi: Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries, has acquired a majority stake in Udhaiyams Agro Foods, bringing Tamil Nadu’s heritage nutrition brand Udhaiyam into its branded staples portfolio, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

Under the joint venture structure, RCPL will hold a controlling stake, while the existing promoters will retain a minority interest and continue to run operations. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition strengthens RCPL’s push into the branded staples and packaged foods segment, as the company accelerates efforts to scale regional legacy brands nationally. Udhaiyam, with a legacy of over three decades, has a strong presence in Tamil Nadu across categories such as pulses, rice, spices, snacks and idli batter, supported by an extensive distribution network.
T. Krishnakumar, director at RCPL, said the brand aligns with Reliance’s strategy of combining heritage-led offerings with affordable pricing, adding that Udhaiyam has the potential to scale into a national brand under Reliance’s distribution and supply chain platform.
Udhaiyams Agro Foods’ managing director S. Sudhakar said the partnership would enable the company to expand beyond Tamil Nadu while preserving the brand’s core identity and focus on quality. Promoters S. Sudhakar and S. Dinakar will continue with the business to support its next phase of growth.
The deal comes as Reliance sharpens its FMCG ambitions, using acquisitions and partnerships to build a diversified food and staples portfolio amid intensifying competition from established consumer goods majors and regional players.
