Uganda to Invest in Gujarat After Vibrant Summit 2024

The three-day event from 10th January 2024, i.e., Wednesday in Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir, Gujarat, witnessed massive participation with almost 34 countries and delegates worldwide to embark on its inauguration day. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Officer, Natasha Kachaku, highlighted her country’s interest in investing in India, citing the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 as a golden opportunity.

Uganda May Invest in Gujarat After Vibrant Summit 2024

The relationship between India and Uganda is rooted in a deep history that spans over a century. The beginning of the two nations dates back to the early 20th century when Indians first arrived in Uganda. Migration played an essential role in shaping the culture and economic landscape of the region. India’s freedom struggle had a profound impact on early Ugandan activists. Later, India established its diplomatic presence in Uganda in 1965. Over the years, diplomatic engagement has evolved, encompassing various areas such as trade, economic developments, collaborations, etc.

Various MOUs were signed during the visit of PM Narendra Modi to Uganda in July 2018. MOUs on bilateral defense cooperation, exemption from visa requirements for officials and diplomats, cultural exchange programs, and establishing a regional material laboratory were among many MOUs that were signed.

Natasha Kachaku, in her remarks prior to the inauguration, said that Ugandans are seeking for investment opportunities in India. She was focused on the opportunity to get knowledge about the dynamic and encompassing state of Gujarat.

During the event, PM Modi announced various propositions for Uganda, such as Credits for construction of electricity lines and Substations worth USD 141 Million, Agriculture and Dairy Production for USD 64 million, additional training for Uganda People’s Defence Force in various Indian Army training institutions, financial support for East African Community (EAC), donation of vehicles, for the Ugandan Peoples Defence Forces and many more.

Events like the Vibrant Global Summit serve as a stage for signing agreements and MOUs but also offer a space for fruitful discussions and idea exchanges. These summits lay the groundwork for long-term economic collaborations, technical advancements, and mutual growth.
