Subhas Chandra Lal Das, a senior IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment, replacing the previous Secretary, BB Swain. Prior to this role, Das held positions such as Director General of Hydrocarbons in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Das has a background in Public Management and Statistics.

In addition to Das, several other appointments were approved by the ACC, including Rameshwar Prasad Gupta as CMD of Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd., Bharat Lal as Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission, Atal Dulloo as Secretary of the Department of Border Management in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Vibhu Nayar as Special Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of External Affairs.
The MSME ministry, led by Minister Narayan Rane and Minister of State Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, consists of Secretary Das, Additional Secretary Dr Rajneesh, and Additional Secretary-and-Financial Adviser Arti Bhatnagar. The ministry also has three joint secretaries responsible for different divisions.
The MSME ministry’s main role is to support and enhance the efforts of state governments in promoting entrepreneurship, employment, livelihood opportunities, and the competitiveness of MSMEs. While the state governments bear the primary responsibility for the development of MSMEs, the central government complements their efforts through various initiatives.
