Vinesh was born on 25 August 1994 in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. She is a freestyle wrestler who completed her journey in wrestling at the age of 29 years. Vinesh took retirement after her disqualification from the Pais Olympics. She has a lot of achievements in her name. Starting from Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, she won several gold medals. Vinesh is a gold medalist in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Commonwealth Games. Apart from that, she also won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships.
Vinesh Phogat married Somvir Rathee. He was her fellow wrestler and belonged to Jind, Haryana. The couple tied the knot in 2018. Vinesh Phogat Takes Retirement From Wrestling After Disqualification In The Paris Olympics
Vinesh has been into wrestling since 2001. She started her practice in her early childhood. Reaching a level, she won a lot of medals and credits. Making India proud, she also became the first Indian woman to reach the final of an Olympic Wrestling event. However, she gets disqualified after reaching the finals. The reason for disqualification was that she missed the weight cut by 100 grams in women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling.
Vinesh wants a joint silver medal and requested the CAS. However, the approval is yet to come. She will be awarded with the joint silver medal in case of the acceptance by CAS. Phogat was playing brilliantly with a 5-0 victory taking her to finals. However, she posted a disheartening post on her X account stating her retirement.
