Silicon Valley: Elon Musk-owned Grok.com has officially surpassed DeepSeek in global website traffic share for the first time, marking a key milestone in the fast-evolving generative artificial intelligence landscape

According to Similarweb’s Global AI Tracker (mid-January 2026), Grok now commands around 3.5% of global generative AI web traffic, edging past DeepSeek’s 3.3%. The development underscores Grok’s rapid ascent from a relatively under-the-radar entrant to a credible global contender in less than a year.
The broader market, however, remains heavily concentrated. ChatGPT continues to dominate with a commanding 64.6% share, reinforcing its position as the default consumer-facing AI platform worldwide.
Google’s Gemini follows with a strong 22% share, reflecting Google’s deep integration of AI across its search and productivity ecosystem.
While DeepSeek has seen rapid adoption in recent months, Grok’s traction suggests growing global interest in differentiated AI products, particularly those tightly integrated with social and real-time data platforms.
As AI adoption deepens across geographies and use cases, traffic share movements are increasingly being viewed as early indicators of long-term platform relevance—making Grok’s crossover moment one to watch closely.
