Tesla, founded by Elon Musk, in 2003 is an American-based company. It is best known for its Electric Vehicles and Clean Energy (EV). Tesla is all set to launch its First Indian showroom in Mumbai, reportedly on July 15, 2025. It will inaugurate the first ever Indian showroom, dubbed an “Experience Centre.” Mumbai gears up for the grand entry. BKC to host Tesla’s Indian centre.
The electric cars, Battery energy storage system, Solar energy products, and self-driving technology. This Experience Centre will be the Tesla’s first real presence in India. However, Years of policy discussions, state-level presentations, and aspirational pre-orders have all been built upon by Tesla in India.
Elon Musk’s Tesla, On July 15, 2025, is scheduled to arrive at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). For its opening, the company imported about $1 million worth of cars, chargers, and goods from the US and China. Moreover, Model Y SUVs and a number of other superchargers fall within this category.
Additionally, Model Y unit is present in Mumbai with value of above Rs. 2.77 million. It is anticipated that this will result in import duties of up to 70%, raising their price above $56,000 [before taxes and insurance].
Tesla & India’s Strategic Planning?
Tesla is launching its fully built vehicles rather than local manufacturing. Consequently, this is Tesla’s strategic market entry in India, despite of incentives for domestic production. This is entering in India with luxury EV positioning. However, imposing high duties, ahead of pricing challenges. As a result, keeping the vehicles out from mainstream consumers reach.
Moreover, for late in July, the second showroom is planned in New Delhi. From sales to autopilot engineering, Tesla is already hiring in India and is now expanding its footprint. Policy incentives have been offered by the Indian Government. Therefore, Tesla was courted by PM Narendra Modi to produce domestically as well, but Elon Musk has not yet expressed interest.
