Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, speaking at ‘The Conclave 2023’ hosted by the Pratidin Media Network emphasized the significant benefits that northeastern states have gained from the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax. She pointed out that since the introduction of GST in 2017-18 ; Northeastern states have experienced remarkable compound annual GST revenue growth with a rate of 27.5%, surpassing the national average of 14.8% for all states.

Sitharaman’s statement which was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by her office and it highlighted the crucial role of GST in providing additional revenue to the northeastern states. This additional revenue has proven to be a valuable asset for these states enabling them to fund various programs and initiatives.
