The Enforcement Directorate arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh following raids conducted at his residence. These actions were related to a money laundering case associated with the Delhi excise policy.

ED Arrested AAP MP Sanjay Singh under Money Laundering Case

The arrest of Sanjay Singh further reduced the strength of the AAP led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, as the party had already lost Manish Sisodia and Satyander Jain to jail.

Before the arrest, ED officials had questioned several individuals connected to the 51-year-old Rajya Sabha MP. Sanjay Singh’s name had also been mentioned in the ED’s charge sheet, which alleged that he had solicited funds from restaurant owners for the AAP during the 2020 Delhi assembly elections.

According to the charge sheet, Singh had facilitated the shifting of a liquor shop, a matter resolved by the Excise Department, and had interactions with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The AAP claimed that the ED was targeting Sanjay Singh due to his parliamentary inquiries related to the Adani group. Sanjay Singh’s father, Dinesh Singh, stated they were cooperating with the ED.

The case revolved around allegations that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 had favored certain liquor dealers, prompting a CBI probe recommendation by the Delhi lieutenant governor.

The AAP vehemently denied these allegations.

Sanjay Singh’s Positions

Sanjay Singh holds several prominent positions within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and serves as a Member of both the Political Affairs Committee and the National Executive. Furthermore, he is the National Spokesperson for the party and bears the responsibility for overseeing party affairs in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Who is Sanjay Singh? AAP MP

Sanjay Singh’s background is rooted in social activism before he transitioned into politics. Born in Sultanpur District, Uttar Pradesh, to parents who were educators, he pursued a diploma in Mining Engineering from the Orissa School of Mining Engineering in Keonjhar. However, his career path took a different direction as he felt the urge to engage in social work rather than a conventional 9-to-5 job.

Sanjay Singh played a pivotal role in the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2012. He was a Committee Member of Team Anna and acted as its spokesperson during the India Against Corruption movement.
